What is Rabbi-ghfir warham about?

The final verse of Surah Al-Mu’minun is a dua the Prophet ﷺ was told to say: "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy." The surah began by describing the believers who will succeed and ended with the disbelievers who will fail, and this closing dua gives the believer the right posture between the two: asking for forgiveness and mercy, not claiming success. The dua is unusually brief, with no object after "forgive", so that it covers every sin, and no object after "have mercy", so that it covers every need.

When is it recited?

  • A short dua for forgiveness used after prayer and at any time.
