65:3

وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَـٰلِغُ أَمْرِهِۦ ۚ قَدْ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدْرًا

wayarzuq'hu min ḥaythu lā yaḥtasibu waman yatawakkal ʿalā l-lahi fahuwa ḥasbuhu inna l-laha bālighu amrihi qad jaʿala l-lahu likulli shayin qadran

And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allāh - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allāh will accomplish His purpose. Allāh has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

What is "Whoever relies on Allah, He is sufficient for him" about?

Verse 3 of Surah At-Talaq completes a promise that begins at the end of verse 2: whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for him and provide for him from where he does not expect. Verse 3 then adds: "Whoever relies on Allah, He is sufficient for him. Allah will accomplish His purpose; He has set a measure for all things." The verses were revealed in the context of divorce, among the hardest situations a family faces, which is why their promise of a way out carries weight. The verse is quoted whenever a door seems closed, and it joins taqwa, mindfulness of Allah, with tawakkul, reliance on Him.

When is it recited?

  • Quoted and reflected on in times of financial worry, separation and uncertainty.
