وَٱلْعَصْرِ
By time,
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
وَٱلْعَصْرِ
By time,
إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ
Indeed, mankind is in loss,
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
Al-'Asr compresses the formula of salvation into three verses: by time, mankind is in loss — except those who believe, do righteous deeds, and counsel one another to truth and to patience. Imam ash-Shafi'i remarked that if people reflected on this surah alone, it would suffice them.
Al-'Asr (العصر) means "The Time" in English. It is chapter 103 of the Holy Quran.
Surah Al-'Asr has 3 verses (ayat). It appears on pages 601 to 601 of the mushaf.
Surah Al-'Asr is a Makki surah, revealed in Makkah before the Prophet's ﷺ migration to Madinah.
