59:22

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ۖ هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

huwa l-lahu alladhī lā ilāha illā huwa ʿālimu l-ghaybi wal-shahādati huwa l-raḥmānu l-raḥīmu

He is Allāh, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

He is God: there is no god other than Him. It is He who knows what is hidden as well as what is in the open, He is the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy.

What is The last three verses of Surah Al-Hashr about?

Verses 22 to 24 of Surah Al-Hashr are the densest list of the names of Allah in the Quran. Verse 22 names Him the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Most Merciful. Verse 23 gives the King, the Holy, the Source of Peace, the Giver of Security, the Guardian, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme, and declares Him above what they associate with Him. Verse 24 closes with the Creator, the Originator, the Fashioner, and says that to Him belong the most beautiful names, and that everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him. The three verses are read as a short lesson in who Allah is, and many people memorise them for that reason.

When is it recited?

  • In the morning after saying a’udhu billahis-sami’il-alim minash-shaytanir-rajim three times, in a narration whose chain scholars consider weak.(Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 2922, graded weak by al-Albani; the verses themselves are recited for their meaning)
