What is Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa huwa about?

The final verse of Surah At-Tawbah was addressed to the Prophet ﷺ: if people turn away, say "Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. In Him I have put my trust, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne." It comes right after a verse describing the Prophet’s concern and mercy for his community, and it gives the response to rejection: reliance on Allah rather than despair. The verse joins three ideas in one line, sufficiency, tawhid and trust, and ends with the Throne, the greatest of creation, as a reminder of the greatness of the One relied upon.

When is it recited?

  • Seven times in the morning and evening, in a narration from Abu ad-Darda.(Sunan Abi Dawud 5081, its chain is discussed by scholars; many treat it as a statement of the Companion)
