And say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم): My Lord! Let my entry (to the city of Al-Madinah) be good, and (likewise) my exit (from the city of Makkah) be good. And grant me from You an authority to help me (or a firm sign or a proof).

What is Rabbi adkhilni mudkhala sidq about?

Verse 80 of Surah Al-Isra is a dua the Prophet ﷺ was told to make: "My Lord, let me enter with a truthful entrance and leave with a truthful exit, and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority." It was revealed around the time of the migration from Makkah to Madinah, so the entrance and exit were read first as leaving Makkah and entering Madinah. Its meaning is wider: every undertaking, every place and every stage of life should be entered and left in truth and sincerity, with Allah’s help. The "supporting authority" was understood as the strength and help Allah gives His religion.

When is it recited?

  • Revealed for the Prophet ﷺ at the migration; made when starting a journey, a new home, a job or any new stage.(Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 3139, graded hasan sahih by at-Tirmidhi)
