25:74

وَٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَٰجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَٱجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

wa-alladhīna yaqūlūna rabbanā hab lanā min azwājinā wadhurriyyātinā qurrata aʿyunin wa-ij'ʿalnā lil'muttaqīna imāman

And those who say, "Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us a leader [i.e., example] for the righteous."

What is Rabbana hab lana min azwajina about?

Verse 74 of Surah Al-Furqan is the last of the qualities of the "servants of the Most Merciful" listed at the end of the surah. They say: "Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and our offspring comfort to our eyes, and make us leaders of the righteous." The phrase "comfort to our eyes", qurrata a’yun, is the Arabic idiom for the deepest joy, the coolness that settles the eye. The dua asks that one’s family be a source of that joy through their faith and conduct, and it ends with the ambition to be an example for others in goodness. It is read at weddings and said by parents for their children.
