What is The dua of Prophet Ibrahim about?

Verses 83 to 85 of Surah Ash-Shu’ara are part of a longer dua of Prophet Ibrahim after he described his Lord to his people. He asks: "My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous. Grant me a reputation of honour among later generations, and make me among the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss." Each request was answered: Ibrahim is honoured by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike, and the Quran calls him the friend of Allah. The dua is a model of asking for things that last: sound judgement, righteous company, a good name after death, and Paradise.

When is it recited?

  • A dua for wisdom and righteous company, often after prayer.
