The rule

Demonstrative pronouns point to something near or far.

هَـٰذَا (hādhā) - this (masculine)

هَـٰذِهِ (hādhihi) - this (feminine)

هَـٰؤُلَاءِ (hā'ulā'i) - these (plural)

ذَٰلِكَ (dhālika) - that (masculine)

تِلْكَ (tilka) - that (feminine)

أُولَـٰئِكَ (ulā'ika) - those (plural)

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ

Dhālika al-kitābu lā rayba fīh

This is the Book about which there is no doubt

أُولَـٰئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ

Ulā'ika ʿalā hudan min rabbihim

Those are upon guidance from their Lord
