بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
تَبَّتْ يَدَآ أَبِى لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ
مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ
سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ
وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلْحَطَبِ
فِى جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍۭ
Al-Masad condemns Abu Lahab, the Prophet's ﷺ own uncle, who answered the first public call to Islam with 'may you perish.' The surah declared — years before their deaths in disbelief — that his wealth would not avail him, and that he and his wife, the carrier of firewood, would enter a fire of flame.
Al-Masad (المسد) means "The Palm Fiber" in English. It is chapter 111 of the Holy Quran.
